Part-Time Tax Accountant
Flexible Hours | Small Office Environment
Pay range: $25-$30 p/h


Our tax services client is seeking an experienced Tax Accountant to join their team on a part-time basis, with flexibility to start and grow hours over time. This is an excellent opportunity for a tax professional who enjoys working closely with small business clients in a collaborative, low-bureaucracy office setting.

Key Responsibilitie

Tax Preparation & Filing

Prepare and file federal, state, and local tax returns for small businesses, including sole proprietors, partnerships, LLCs, and S corporations
Prepare individual tax returns for business owners with pass-through income
Ensure accurate reporting of income, deductions, credits, and depreciation
Prepare and file extensions; track and manage filing deadlines

Tax Planning & Strategy

Advise clients on year-round tax-saving strategies
Recommend entity structure changes (e.g., LLC vs. S-Corp) to improve tax efficiency
Assist clients with quarterly estimated tax planning
Identify applicable deductions, credits, and tax incentives

Compliance & Regulatory Support

Stay current on federal and state tax law changes impacting small businesses
Ensure compliance with IRS and state agency requirements
Maintain documentation supporting tax filings
Assist with business registrations and tax ID setup as needed

Audit & Notice Resolution

Respond to IRS and state tax notices on behalf of clients
Assist with audits and inquiries (as authorized)
Prepare supporting documentation and written explanations
Help negotiate payment plans or penalty abatements when appropriate

Client Education & Advisory

Explain tax obligations and outcomes in clear, non-technical language
Educate clients on best practices for recordkeeping
Respond to ongoing tax-related questions
Proactively identify and communicate tax risks and opportunities

Technology & Systems

Utilize tax and accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, UltraTax, or Lacerte
Maintain secure and organized client records
Support efficient workflows tailored to small business clients


Qualifications
Required

3+ years of tax accounting experience working with small businesses ($100K-$10M revenue range)
Proficiency in Excel
3+ years of experience using tax and accounting software

Preferred

Associate's degree or higher in accounting
Experience with UltraTax, QuickBooks, and/or Xero
Enrolled Agent (EA) certification
